Raging flood waters turned roads into rivers, while abandoned
vehicles crashed into one another, tornados blackened the sky
and golf ball-sized hailstones pelted down amid near-apocalyptic
scenes in southern and eastern Spain today, as rescuers said
they had recovered several bodies.

An unspecified number of missing persons have been found dead
in areas affected by flash floods devastating parts of the
country, the leader of the Valencia region told reporters early
on Wednesday.

. . .

First most of Europe was cooked in a massive
heat wave. Then that suddenly changed to huge
floods - first in the east, now moving west.

'24 has been a VERY weird year.

TWO possible co-factors ... a very strong peak
in solar activity - the particle bombardment is
claimed to stimulate lightning and drop nucleation.

The other, maybe more relevant, was the gigantic
Tonga eruption which blasted MASS quantities
of salt water and dust into the upper stratosphere
like a gigantic shotgun. Now they say the junk has
drifted down to where it begins to affect ordinary
weather. The Scandi's are predicting an especially
severe winter because of this.

Likely effects on the Americas are unknown, though
S.America has been hit by a bad drought.

Very informative post. Thanks for sharing.

Hurricane Ida, which kinda made me leave NYC, was like that.

The Carolinas ... one place near Asheville got
like 30" in half an hour. Parts of east Florida
got 8-12" in like five minutes from that lethal
leading storm band.

"They" say that the Spanish event came from very
warm wet air pushing up over some hills, and
meeting a fall cool front. All the water squeezed
out all at once. Based on early reports I'm gonna
assume at least 300 dead and the infrastructure
looks like N.Carolina. Eastern Europe and to some
degree Italy saw similar blasts a week earlier.

In any case, it CAN happen. Those "thousand year
events", well, it's been 1000 years in a LOT of
places, so .....

Some incredible new "footage" of the Spanish flooding:

tonga is probably playing a role, but i think the attribution may
be more than what its effects might be.

It will be a good year or two yet before the
supercomputers can chomp all the data and come
up with a good model of what Tonga actually did
to the world and why.

Weird out-of-the-blue blast however. Others can
happen at any time. The entire Pacific rim seems
to be having more activity this year, many more
quakes than usual. This may encourage other big
volcanic events over the next few years as
things shift around.

Events like the Deccan traps in India can also
happen - which would grey-out the world for
decades or centuries. Iceland is now heating
up and some of those "giant crack" volcanoes
are appearing. Absolutely no reason that the
kind of events that built Iceland cannot
resume.

Some suggest it was the dino-killer asteroid that
set things off in India. It's almost exactly on
the opposite side of the planet, and the asteroid
would have sent a big wave through the earth,
with the focus near India. Interesting, but not
proven, idea.

In any event, the human sensibility of what's
"normal" weather is VERY narrow. Alas it is
just not sane to build for those 1000-year
blasts - we'd all have to live in elevated
foot-thick concrete pill-boxes.

Followup note :

Now the clash line between tropical air and a fall
cool front is repositioning over the Brit-owned
holiday island of Palma, near Spain.

Govt has ordered lock-downs in Majorca (which seems
stupid as shit if flood-waters come (but the UK govt
seems keen on destroying its citizens of late)).

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14031323/Palma-LOCKDOWN-Majorca-braces-flood-horror.html

Meanwhile, more than 2000 are still reported as 'missing'
in Valencia after the mega-flood.

the india thing i think was because of a hotspot that got
triggered right? same thing happened during the permian mass
extinction in siberia. activated hotspot..

its called hotspot or something else? it still exists in the
indian ocean, i think near madagascar.
